Freewrite Alpha is a smaller, cheaper distraction-free writing tool

I wish I could be excited but Astrohaus has a really bad record.

- They produce the worst software you can possibly imaging - They’ve shutdown their user forum because people had (very valid) complains about their product - They force the use of a (bad) proprietary cloud - They suddenly stop supporting not so old device - They have openly lied to their community about future support/upcoming devices/features

All of this could be forgivable but my main complain is this: they managed to make devices for writing that are bad at writing. If you type to quickly, the software cannot manage it and mix the letters. That should tell you enough… (see gemini://rawtext.club/~ploum/2021-10-07.gmi )

I really would like a modern AlphaSmart that would support my keyboard layout (bépo) and have weeks of battery. Currently crossing my fingers for the MNT Pocket Reform…

It's a charming idea, kind of whimsical. I like that. But the screen really seems too small, even for writing. I recently bought a used ThinkPad X220 for 180€ (typing on it right now). OK, the battery won't last 100 hours, but I'd take it any day over this.

I'll stick with the AlphaSmart with 800 hours of battery life. I bought mine on eBay for $25.

That screen is just TOO small, in my opinion...
