Misleading headline is misleading. The article's author seems to recognize that this is not actually a ban, having used "scare quotes" around the term at least once.
When a school decides to remove a book from a curriculum, that is not a ban, that is a prudential educational and administrative decision. Michael Crichton novels are not studied in class, but Michael Crichton is not banned by teachers or schools.
Most of today's "book bans" are simply pearl-clutching about prudential decisions by libraries or schools or others to avoid controversy and curate their own collections. Everybody makes decisions every day about what to display, what to retain, and what to remove from the shelves. That's not censorship or banning, that's just curation.
