'Wholesale Wokery', which, as usual, is confusing correlation and causation
All the diversity stuff was always “box ticking”, in David Graeber’s taxonomy of bullshit jobs.
Though I don’t really blame the industry, the bureaucracy of diversity initiatives rarely leave room for actual progress.
The dollars were not incinerated, they belong to other people now. Success highly depends on your perspective.
I believe the "bro culture" is refreshing compared to the usual stiff corporate culture and is not restricted to any sex. Wouldn't have called it that way and I have yet to see any engineers doing "locker room talk". Most just aren't really the type. A stereotype perhaps, but that is as true for the accusation of a culture not being welcoming. I would dispute that and I believe it is just not what some people want it to be. Maybe it is different in SV because the place also attracts the gold diggers and opportunists that are prone to take other risks as well.
Especially with the history of how nerds were seen by society, it just sounds like a joke. And overall a joke it turned out to be. So much so that people rejected attempts to reform a culture. Now behavior is less carefree, but the usual corporate culture was still preferable than what was suggested as an improvement. A compromise I guess, but without any winners at all. And I doubt anti-discrimination laws are what people were looking forward to.
That there are entanglements among investors is a problem everywhere and not at all intrinsic to the tech industry. A bit more class among investors would be nice, but here it is asking for more class among twitter users. There are some problems with discrimination. But women probably have a far easier time at tech companies than they would have in a surgical ward. If that is still true today that is because you have to look pretty closely to find any occupation that still discriminates on the basis of sex.
Women need to distance themselves from all this and discriminate against men. Feminism has tricked women and brainwashed them into imagining that they need to be equal to men and avail equal rights. It is a step down for women. It is the worst thing that can ever happen to women who can excel in every way if they create their own kingdom with its own special set of rules for admission.
The sooner women distance themselves from the Bro groups and establish their own world where they can truly enjoy power, the better it is for them. They will never be treated equally in a world where genderism and sexism will never be eradicated.
Right now, the world is being run by Peter Pans. It’s embarrassing.
Shouldn't that be equally the case with women?
Apart from that, yes, Musk did childish jokes on Twitter, but that's hardly news I guess?
And why is it a problem if Zuckerberg tries to present himself as old-school masculine? He's old, married, and a dad now.
>Mr. Musk’s blockbuster deal for Twitter underlines how the tech industry still operates like an old boys’ club.
Can anyone explain this line?
So what? Sports are evil now?
> Elon thinks he’s above the law?
If he rejected the court as a scam, you could make that argument. Merely being taken to court is not claiming to be above the law.
> Andreessen trusted that entrepreneur with how much money?
As he made a ton of money for his initial investors. Just sucks to be the one holding the bag at the end. I would happily get in on the ground floor of a scam too.
