Uni was where I grew up and learned to do things myself rather than waiting for others to do them for me. How to study, how to organize my time, how to have social relationships, ... While my folks (thankfully) paid the bills, I handled the courses, drop/add, degree progression, etc. Applied to grad school and handled that on my own (no explicit tuition).
Take that away, and I'm left trying to engage and leave home. No thanks.
