Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order: Why Nations Succeed and Fail https://a.co/d/glYQyNV
Basically sums up EU tech scene. Not even caring enough to fluff it up. Have a person that maybe doesn’t even know what a chip is, make the intro, then consider it a well done endeavor. Meanwhile, EU is pumping less for chips (R&D, Manufacturing et. al.) in this decade, than Intel is pumping into a single factory.
That's a bit unfair, because the "scene" care's (think of CCC and Netzpolitik).
But what's sad is that the politicians have absolutely no clue, absolutely no interest (well like you said "Not even caring enough"), then you have Flinten Uschi who don't even know that Helicopters need replacement parts do flight reliably.
And then you have leader's who don't even know what the Internet is...no really! They think it's a normal "can be regulated without been called China" transport of information created by twitter and email...maybe Zoom too (just look at the discussions about Chat-control v2.0)
Then the whole Operating-system thing, every real entity in this world try's to have alternative's to Microsoft (i am NOT saying Microsoft is evil..but you know Cloud-act etc..) and what do we get? A Lidl-Cloud and huge Microsoft installations at every important part of Governments and with every NEW project. Munich (LiMux) is a perfect example how corrupt and Anti-patriotic[1] whole Europe and especially Germany is.
We have not a single affordable and reliable Cloud in Europe..and NO Hetzner makes business in the US since ~4 month so they fall under the Cloud-Act too, that made it instantly unusable for European personal connected information.
[1] With patriotic i mean look for the well-being of your people's and hold up the base ideas of your society and law's (because that's the job of politician...well in theory), and NOT the nonsensical "i love my Country because i do"
Turns out he was right about that but it was cool to just do/think the opposite of whatever he said. The Germans laughed it off as if it "could never happen". Turns out it could and did all within a year.
Trump was not uniquely correct about this. Obama warned Europe about this same thing.
It doesn’t make sense to refer to that guy on Russia/nato when the only time he was right was when it happened to give him a way to criticize a country he hated, while turning around and fawning over the Russian leader when not talking about Germany.
It doesn’t make sense to bring up trump here unless one simply can’t get over trump. There’s plenty of others who are far more appropriate like romney who got made fun of for being right on Russia, not someone who showed open appreciation of Russia hacking their political opponents and regularly showed admiration and deference to Putin.
