OT, but not much, among the most admirable examples of DIY, I hold a place for this guy who managed (and had the guts) to replace a SSD on a Surface Pro after having cut a little window on the case with a dremel:
How much of an "advantage" is it for manufacturing to solder the RAM chip(s) to the motherboard? Would it really take a lot more time and expense to install RAM that can be replaced/upgraded? This is the one thing that I wish I could upgrade on a lot of machines.
Of course, like a lot of things in the right-to-repair space, I want to see what Louis Rossmann has to say about this but on the surface it looks like progress!
I'd like one of these, but they still seem a bit too expensive for what you get. Entry-model with only 4 GiB of RAM is a bummer in particular.
