How does this compare with Umbrel (https://umbrel.com/) which appears to be a similar project?

This appears to share lineage with Umbrel. I haven't looked deeply enough to make any particular claims, but I feel fairly confident that one of these projects is violating someone's copyright.

For an example, compare https://github.com/meienberger/runtipi/blob/master/scripts/a... with https://github.com/getumbrel/umbrel/blob/master/scripts/app.

Umbrel isn't open source, for one, and is heavily crypto focused, as it started as a Bitcoin miner and expanded out into being a selfhosting platform.

Otherwise, pretty similar, it's Docker plus fancy glue. :)

Would it make sense to merge the 2 projects, given that there is considerable overlap?

From my experience everyone who makes their own has some reason they want it done their way. While I'd like to see more selfhosting platforms collaborate, I think it's also good we don't have a strong monoculture in the space.
