Ask HN: How do you find time to write comments on HN?

How do HN commenters find time to write elaborate well, written comments that are arguably better than other platforms?

I've been a long lurker on HN for years. It's one of my favorite places to consume content. I enjoy reading HN discussions, which are better than other platforms, such as Reddit. Often times I scroll through discussions without even opening the link.

For all of you who regularly comment on HN, how do you find time to write? Do you do it from your phone? Or while at work via your workstation? How long do you spend writing your comments? How often do you comment?

Most people write comments at work. You'll do it too when you graduate and get a job.

This is the correct answer.

Best use of compile time.

I eat fast and spend less time in the shower to find the time to comment. A few moments “stolen” here and there add up.

I have not tracked my time spent writing comments or how often I comment. I will add those data points to my productivity tracking system.

I comment while chewing. You can also save time by brushing your teeth in the shower, or on the toilet seat.

Some of my friends bought a waterproof phone to write comments while in the shower, but the drawback to this is that the water capacitance from the shower may be detected as a finger.

I comment while doing other stuff, but I spend more time because other people do too so I have more to say in response.

I also comment on many fewer posts than I would on other platforms.

I consider participating in relevant threads as working too so I don’t feel guilty doing it during the day.

I sometimes have meeting scheduled with breaks short enough that it's hard to do any meaningful coding, so HN fills the time gaps easily. And I enjoy commenting on topics where I feel I can contribute positively, so I comment often, on the computer :)

Depends if I care or have something I think is of value to add.
