I don't understand why they can't use trademark law or something to keep companies from violating the spec all over the place. Even the Nintendo Switch's implementation has a list of violations a full page long.
I don't think the Switch is sold as USB-C in the US. (You can charge with one, but I think they tell you to use the Nintendo Power Adaptor and make no mention of USB-C.)
