Russian oil boss who criticised war dies 'after falling from hospital window'

Russians keep falling from windows. Is that a common suicide method there, and might it be a convenient cover for an extra-judicial execution?

I’m beginning to believe it’s just a Russian euphemism for assassination or murder. Like saying “he sleeps with the fishes.”

Nazi General Blaskowitz "fell" off a balcony in the Nuremberg court - he had during the war written to Hitler saying the SS were murdering civilians and it was not becoming of the Wermacht. He was likely to be let off at Nuremberg and the SS got their revenge.

Anyway - not just Russia.

(https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Blaskowitz). It's worth noting he was not somehow a "good" Nazi. I guess he just would not stomach some things his compatriots would. But he did stomach awful war crimes anyway.

Ok - HN is not the place for partisan politics. But this must be a salient data point about ... something.

Defenestration seems to be an oddly common occurrence in Russia, but I'm just here because I like to use that word.

The data point is that Russia is the only countries where the elites are more violent and more matter-of-factly than the general population.

2 high profile assassinations in the last week. The daughter of Putin's spiritual guide and now this.

Such things don't even happen in Saudi or Nigeria

Saudi has a track record of this.

I've listened to a interview with a Polish writer Krystyna Kurczab-Redlich about her book about Putin. She was in Russia gathering material and she had a Russian friend who worked in army. She asked him if he's afraid of dying and he told her: "your job is much more dangerous".

I’ve seen this referred to as violence as a political tool.
