Is Stripe using Stripe?
"Isn't Stripe Billing doing this?" is one of the most common questions we get at Lago (open-source billing API for product-led SaaS - YC S21).
So we decided to run a simple experiment: try to replicate Stripe Payments's pricing (2.9% + $0.30) using Stripe Billing.
Should be pretty straightforward, right?

TL;DR: Stripe probably doesn't use Stripe Billing to bill its own customers, or there must be a lot of custom development involved.
Curious to hear about other limitations you ran into when using Stripe Billing, especially if you're building a B2B SaaS company.
Note: We love Stripe (and partner with Stripe Payments) and we'd use Stripe Billing if we were an e-commerce or B2C company. This post aims at explaining, with factual examples, the problem Lago is solving for.
