That said, this sorta strikes me like how apparently you can't actually write ASM against modern CPU architectures and think presume it maps one-to-one with what the machine is doing at runtime due to things like speculative branching amongst others.
V8 (and I guess other JIT compilers) would be similar as you can't guess the optimizations ahead of time in many cases.
