Note taking apps like Joplin for Ubuntu?

For some stupid reason, I'm not allowed to use Joplin by myself LOL. So, I want to use a note taking app that's very similar to it.

I want:

1) Image pasting

2) Tabs with close UI there

Basically sth that looks like notepad++ but with image pasting facility where I can see image directly without having to open new window

I tried zim, but it was stupid UI for me. Closing tabs was hard. And as soon as I started writing in 1 note tab, that tab would come to the right highlighted. Pretty annoying.

Any recommendations? Please share.

I moved from a previous setup to Obsidian[0], but if you end up thinking Obsidian is overkill, here's my old setup:

Visual Studio Code, with 1 plugin, Markdown Paste[1]. VSCode has a text editing experience very close to the simplicity of notepad++, including tabs. Markdown Paste to paste image from clipboard into Markdown -- location/filepath of locally-saved image can be changed.

In VSC, you can open a preview tab which will show the rendered Markdown (including images) and put that side-by-side with your text editor tab.

I think the key with Obsidian -- especially if you're overwhelmed, is to refrain from extending it too early.

Day (week?) 1 of Obsidian, you should be getting familiar with it, and adding plugins, if any, slowly.

It's pretty easy to become enamored by awesome the plugins and all the awesome ways you can customize Obsidian, but it's easy to get yourself in a big mess.

obsidian creates new tab for every pasted image, otherwise it was great. that's why i don't like it.

Not sure what this means, could you clarify?

Obsidian is a neat alternative that stores all documents in just a directory as markdown files, so it's easy to move to/from in case you want to change in the future/migrate existing files to it.

Quite different from N++, but perhaps Obsidian with Tabs plugin?

Do you mean it adds them to your vault, in the left sidebar? As far as I know, you cannot hide them from there, but what you can do is define an attachments folder, so that any pasted image will be placed there and it won't generate noise for all the other files in your vault.

yea that's what i mean. why would anyone use an app like that lol. i don't understand markdown guruzzzz ..I wish someone made a joplin copy with different look but everything remains same.
