Ask HN: I submitted a link to a YouTube Vice documentary and it got flagged?

1 pointwinternett6 comments

I just submitted a link to a YouTube Vice TV documentary and it got instantly flagged. I don't understand why it did...

It was about how Narcissism is growing in the World... HN edited the title of my post at submission, so I don't think there was really any way I could manage to add more context to the original title.

I won't add the link here unless requested. Hoping a mod can tell me why, because I don't want to be flagged again... Thanks,

Probably HN users flagging it. This site is mostly self-moderated and the official mods step in when it's trickier or someone is a repeat offender and needs a suspension or ban

If you have a question for the mod, then email them, directions are in the FAQ. They don't monitor every post and will unlikely see this one

To add to this, at least in my observation, the HN crowd doesn't generally tend to like direct links to YouTube videos. An article about the topic would probably fare better.

Good to know.

I think video links are fine, the stats show they are iirc. What you'll want to do is add a first comment after submission explaining what you think is interesting or worth discussing

Thanks for the clarity guys!

I don't always have the time to write out a detailed description, but will save posts for when I can.

I am beginning to not like the process in which HN changes intended titles for posts, seems like a new move to fight sensationalism on post titles, but it often works with unintended results that could add context if they weren't edited... Seems counter productive... But I can't complain. :)

BTW: here's the link to the documentary...

It starts out by mentioning artwork of Trump naked, so that may be a bit polarizing, but the discussion is an interesting topic that I'd love to see people delve into here. Maybe someone else can creatively post it more successfully than me one day... hah.
