IBM banned beards and shorts.

Then permitted Bermuda shorts, briefly.

Beards came later.

Now, IBM sacks anyone over the age of 55 (only half joking)

How many 55 year olds work at FAANGs?

Brian Reid isn't one of them, we know that from a lawsuit with Google (he was 52 at the time)

OTOH Vint Cerf, Rob Pike & Ken Thompson are all doing fine there. So, YMMV
