Is this because GPT-4 is about to be released and they want to charge full price for that?

Why wouldn’t they just charge more for the better, improved GPT-4?

Maybe demand has slowed and they want to keep it up.

GPT-J was about the same cost to self-host as GPT-3 (ignoring maintenance costs). They’re getting ahead of competitors IMO.
