Physically harming a child was first outlawed in Sweden (Finland soon followed). In Sweden the majority was against this law but once it was introduced attitudes changed. In Sweden this law is often seen as an example of how progressive laws do not have to follow public opinions but can also help form them.

This lady was raised by parents who beat her, then she reflected and studied hard to find constructive ways of raising her own children without needing to lift a hand against them.

A commendable example of self reflection and improvement for the next generation. Her children won't ask her, "why didn't you hit me more often?", they will thank her.

If future generations are moral they will come to look back on this practice as barbaric.

This model of "power struggle" seems distressingly common throughout history, with kids and with dogs. And an awful lot of people seem to think it's either that, or no standards at all.

Aren't most civilized countries like that?
