What a load of bulls---. For removing chemicals activated charcoal does a better job, also if the clay filter stops the chemicals they must build up inside the clay until the clay can no longer absorb more just like the charcoal filter. Also my home filter has a silver matrix to kill the bacteria.

I think you're right about some build up over time in the clay as it must retain some impurities. It's pretty common to clean it every once in a while to prevent that build up, at least that is what's mentioned by Brazilians that have used this filter for decades
