the person declaring that he supports CEOs being their complete, honest selves at work. I doubt he would say the same thing to employees, who are instructed to shut up and get to work.

This is incredibly vulnerable and heroic of the CEO. What a compassionate person. He feels this firings deeply and he wants to share with us that it wasn't easy. Some people say it's almost as hard firing someone as being fired.
