Macroeconomic data is never going to feel "true" to everyone. As the economy has boomed, plenty of people still struggled.

Inflation is measured across a very wide range of individual circumstances. I personally have seen very little inflation in my area, certainly less than the country as a whole has seen. There will always be pockets that are far from the average.
