While iOS users prefer imessage, SMS, over other messaging services like Whatsapp.
Google has had plenty of messengers, none of which interoperates with third parties either. But now they complain that Apples does the same that Google has always done. And their cry is for Apple to adopt RCS, a broken standard pushed mostly by Google and partners.
I'll rarely defend Apple (and I'm not really doing so here either), but it seems like Google is trying to gain some sympathy here, and just trying to spin the facts in a light where they sound like the victim -- when they've had the exact same behaviour as Apple since forever.
Replace the Google exec's responsible for their messaging s*it-show with new exec's appointed by Tim Cook. Those new exec's will have authority over all relevant Google people & resources, report only to Tim Cook, and be paid by Google - at rates set by Tim Cook.
