Maybe cause everything that used to be standalone now has a launcher or whatever, even Photoshop. And software is changing faster now.
What I'd like to see however is school teaching FOSS options too instead of folks getting train purely on proprietary, expensive subscription software.
Of course some students complain about it, especially seeing that some of them are already accustomed to Adobe's suite. One refrain i heard was "of course this is free software, nobody would pay for it".

Yes it's piracy. And the author can expect to be dmca'd, along with their account information being subpoenaed. Same thing I said to the Zelda decompiled team: if you're going to do it, you better have absolutely nothing associated with your real identity. VPNs for everything.
Unfortunately, devs don't understand how medieval court processes are. If the corps want to, they can bury you. You exist because they let you.
