Not much of an article.

It's one of the coolest looking aircraft, which had a really tough development and a very poor safety record[0]

This was actually a case study when I did my degree. Module was called ‘Software Failure and Risk’

Is that really a good link to prove that the Osprey has a poor safety record though? Many other aircrafts have a really long list. A better link would be a standardized rate based on flight hours or airframes.

‘Had’ is the word - I think it’s now the safest aircraft the USMC operate?

Compared to the aircraft it replaced, it's actually safer and much more capable.

I knew of the Osprey. But cool how the props are synced exactly. I never knew that before.

I imagine that would be very hard to do if they were both independent engines but I read they are connected so that makes more sense

You would want them connected incase one engjne failed while landing in vertical mode

The Chinook helicopter synchronises both sets of rotor blades too, they are both driven from the same drive shaft.

I grew up watching this being developed and would see it in the air near my house all the time.

These circled London for hours when Trump visited a few years ago. We couldn't get our baby to sleep for the noise. We lived in a top floor flat and had roof access (giving an amazing panoramic view of the whole city) so I went up there and gave them the finger. Then I stopped, feeling slightly childish and also that there was a non-zero change they might decide to strafe me. Cool aircraft though. Definitely an awe-inspiring physical presence.

Yeah, was going to say, you can always tell when the US President is in London because these things start buzzing around. Very loud and annoying, but they sure look cool!
