That 160 wh/kg vs 260 wh/kg for cobalt-nickel lithium ion isn't that big a gulf as it seems: the PACK density for sodium and LFP wastes a lot less space than NCM which requires a lot of active cooling to prevent runaway fires.
At pack level NCM is about 180 wh/kg, maybe 200 wh/kg. The new LFP chemistries that will come into mass production will be 200 wh/kg at PACK level.
So we should have mass production LFP for a 400 to possibly 500 mile range car, and sodium ion should be able to do 200-300 mile range cars, the REAL sweet spot.
So anyway, findings like this can be wrapped into evolutionary improvements in the future, and the constant barrage can be tiring, but mass production sodium ion and LFP at those densities will be revolutionary, because it is the path to mass production at 10s of millions per year of EVs + grid storage.
