People just aren't scared enough of COVID anymore to keep the forever-emergency going, so now we have a new excuse for violating our legal processes and civil rights for the next few years.

As has been seen elsewhere in collapsing democracies, once the ruling class discovers the ability to gain unfettered power through the long-term use of "emergency powers", they always find a way to keep the "emergency" from ever expiring.
