The biggest problem is that there aren't many "vibrant" community places left to go to other than big social media now, and the can quickly be overwhelmed by other migrating birds.
A new social site would be better designed to host links in differing formats all together, like a site you could just plug a YouTube URL into, or even a TikTok URL and then it would work to present posts to relevant people without requiring a lot of input from account managers, perhaps by searching the web for relevant info to the post content and person posting it.
One of the biggest pains is whenever a new platform takes over in dominance, we have to scramble to reserve our namesake on the platform if it might take off. That too is stressful. I can't complain, because I'm lucky to be functional, but social media and related activity is very costly in time and money with constantly decreasing returns in public reach, volumes of valuable time can be wasted by anyone during the process of learning that. :/
1) Personal blogs 2) Blogroll 3) Web-rings and web-directories with manually curated links
I left all "social media platforms" 4 years ago, never look back, never miss anything important
Now if only wen hosting companies weren't seeking to increase pricing and upsell us all the time, we'd have something really epic! har.
Hosting prices are on the golden age, not see any issues here. But well, depends on each requirements.
