Things I Have Drawn is a site in which the things kids draw are real

This reminded of a special edition of Magic: The Gathering cards which were illustrated by children, along with a professional artist’s interpretation: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/secret-la...

Mad Magazine did this in 1963... "If kids designed their own Xmas toys": https://imgur.com/gallery/45RGR

In the "press" section it has a video about how he makes the images. Direct link to the exact moment of the explanation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6e1DWD_GRQ&t=165s

Considering all the Dall-e stuff it's a bit ironic that the sites font shows the artist name "Al" almost the exact same way as it would the acronym "AI".

I kinda did a similar thing recently with DALL-E 2, recreating a badly drawn heavy metal album cover https://twitter.com/P_Galbraith/status/1549519849558519808

Reminds me of these odd bikes:

Unpopular opinion, but here goes ... The pictures are absolutely charming. This is because they distill the essential qualities of the object (from the child's POV), which is lost when you have perfect representation art. But turning them into real objects results in things that are often terrifying and grotesque, not charming. I don't believe the kids wanted their object to look like that in real life. They may be proud that their creation is realized, but I doubt their drawing is an expression of desire. They just have imperfect skills in representation. In contrast, there is imaginative art that kids excel at (e.g. a puppy with wings and a goatee). That's something that is really cool to see as a real object.

It reminds me of pix2pix https://phillipi.github.io/pix2pix/

aka "with sufficiently clever software you can turn innocent and charming children's drawings into nightmare fuel!"

OT: Please don't use hover interactions for displaying titles on mobile phones. I thought this was a gallery and then realised I had to tap and check what these are.

I wish Dall-e was more like this.

The pictures look the like were generated by ML

Petalica Paint, formerly PaintsChainer, uses AI to colorize line drawings. It had a moment a couple of years back. I still find it amazingly satisfying.

Reminds me of Nala 2.0

Also see the absolutely absurd episode of Dexter's Laboratory "Dexter and Computress Get Mandark!" It was written and narrated by a six year old fan of the show and hilariously brought to life by Genndy Tartakovsky and crew.

This is fun and cool. Also, I kind of expect that DALL-E (or, a variation thereof) will be able to do this with the right prompts. Hope he doesn't get too attached to the manual process and keeps the project going when the AI comes for his jerb ;)

Like Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings?

Budsies does this https://www.budsies.com/ but they turn the drawing into a stuffed animal

How can I take my kid’s drawings and do the same?

I got a lot more than what I expected

It's a good thing he got his fifteen minutes of fame before an AI was created to do exactly the same thing.
