That was a big worry back then when you could nuke/portscan people with only their IPs. It's not so much nowadays and chances are when you see your hostname unobfuscated, you're the only one that does so (/whois other people). Most IRCds will have a host replacement mechanism for privacy and just general good-behaviourness.
