Nichelle Nichols, Uhura in ‘Star Trek,’ Dies at 89

I always loved the story about how she was thinking of quitting Star Trek because of the limitations of her role until Martin Luther King asked her not to, because her role as an intelligent, independent, courageous equal was so important for black women.

She was a true trailblazer and inspiration.

And she had the grace to understand what it meant to every one of us.

I'm saddened that she is no longer with us.

(movies 5 and 6 and TNG:Chain of Command - "There are four lights!" with his Royal Shakespeare Company friend Patrick Stewart)

RIP, Ms. Nichols. Thanks for the entertainment, and for pushing the world forward a little bit.
