Seems to me that this isn't intentionally done to block upgrades. I don't think anyone at Apple expects the M1 trackpad to be connected to an M2 logic board in the real world, and didn't write drivers to accommodate.

It's the apple way - do you realistically expect Apple to release a driver that can fix this issue, given their history of hostility to upgradebility and repairs? One thing I didn't understand is if this is a firmware issue or an OS one? If it is a macOS driver issue, a hack to fix this should be possible as the driver already exists to make it work on M2 - the Hackintosh people should be all to offer more insights as they have more experience with such issues.

So you do realise that it is an intentional design by Apple to prevent upgrades. (Must be nice to have money to waste if one is willing to spend 10x to 50x replacing a whole motherboard because one of the cheaper soldered parts stops working and can't be easily replaced ...)

It's not this simple and you know it. Finding and replacing a tiny defective component is labor intensive to diagnose and to fix and not guaranteed at all. labor intensive = expensive.
