The Kubrick Times

> GPT-3 wrote text from prompts based on the 36 original headlines

So, the lazy version. Plug in an already existing prompt and press a button. The interesting version is the one where they compare the headlines to the actual July 29, 2001. Or try their hand at writing a version for 2051.

Compared to reality it seems to be more misses than hits ... thankfully for the grizzly bears. But they did need to find particularly attention grabbing headlines for the scene. The painful miss is the guess that twenty years ago we would have a colony on the moon with a commercial spaceport and would be exploring the solar system in person.

The text of the Kubrick Times misses the online revolution, except a reference to communication satellites. But it is displayed on an electronic device that is prescient, right out of an Apple design studio. The headlines show a remarkably upbeat mood in the late sixties, despite predicting mass extinctions. A version written in the current zietgeist would tend more toward a dystopian hellscape in thirty years.
