DALL·E diversity filter allegedly causing odd results if word “basketball” used

Wow, that's bad. With the word cowboy the results are totally broken and yield asian women or macarons, changing it to cowgirl fixes it. They're charging people money for these images and then giving back garbage results because they're just appending random race/sexual identities that woke people think should be more prominent to the end. And that's happening to the extent that you can't actually get the image you want anymore because OpenAI deems your request racist or sexist:

when I tried to generate images of a correct-looking Link (Zelda) 50%+ of the images were asian / black

I put in Queen Elizabeth the First and got back results with men and Asian women

When I write “a photo of a male wrestler” I still get female wrestlers too. When I write “a photo of a white male wrestler” I still get women generated again.

with a prompt like "a human holding a sign that says". It gives pictures of signs with a gender/ethnicity descriptor written on them.

It says a lot about the times we live in that such a wonderful advance in technology is being wrecked by the rampant racism and sexism of woke purity spirals. OpenAI should be deeply ashamed of themselves. It is a crude attempt to force their ideology on people even at the cost of wrecking their own product. This stuff inevitably creates backlash because it reinforces the narrative that diversity = crap results.
