Note the last time the speaker of the house Gingrich visited Taiwan in 1997, the speaker was from the opposition party to the then administration. This time speaker Pelosi is from the ruling party. I am wondering whether this is to divert the critisism of her husband inside trading, or a genuine strategic escalation to force showdown with China sooner rather than later.
