If you like that you should check out this (also free) documentary[0] covering Cuba's transformation towards a local farm network. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 Cuba was basically forced to undergo an artificial "peak oil" all at once (something we'll all undergo soon) brought on by the incredible sanctions of Western nations. There was obviously mass famines and starvation. But in order to survive Cubans had to completely reinvent their agricultural system

Today Cuba is one of only 18 countries with a Global Hunger Index under 5.[1] Permaculturists around the world travel to Cuba to learn for the incredible amount of knowledge that has built up there in the past 2-3 decades.

Sounds like the USSR's successful attempts to grow citrus fruits in cold climates, when imports were discouraged for political reasons immediately after the Russian Civil War. Necessity is the mother of invention:

Not to dismiss the achievements of Cuba, but the GHI seems to exclude Western Europe and the Anglosphere.

Sure that's an important note, thanks. The GHI assessed 135 counties and only gathered enough data to compute the GHI for 116 countries.

Nice. I like the eco-sentiment and enthusiasm but the proselytizing detracted from it.

He's a simple man of faith and of the earth. Don't let that take away from the work he is doing.
