Why can't America build trains?

That is really the wrong question to ask. The right question:
- Why can't America build ~any sort of not-desperately-needed large-scale infrastructure, when such construction was so common and easy in America a ~century ago, and still is today in many other countries?
Thanks, but I'm a old geezer, with minimal social media footprint. Preaching the Global Warming Gospel on HN has no upsides that matter to me. Vs. that phrase is pretty descriptive, in the context of modern American's infrastructure failures. And it helps summarize why certain infrastructure projects - such as the I35W replacement bridge - seem to go fast & smooth.
