Learning Language Is Harder Than You Think

My view on AI making the grade will be when someone creates a stand-alone AI entity that can teach me to speak a language just as well as a human native speaker could.

I don't think that exists yet. If it did, I imagine we'd be hearing about it.

I started thinking I could subscribe to a stream of "person who knows what they are talking about taking apart nonsense on Twitter" but then I realised, I'm probably just one step up the foodchain from the people getting nuggets of contrarian science from Twitter.

To be a real info-hipster I should immediately jump to the person doing even longer form takedowns of the long form takedowns of the Twitter hot takes to get my dopamine hit of feeling smarter than others.

I love the idea of the parent teaching a child ... "foot" ... "dog" ... "justice" ... Illustrates strikingly how little we know about language and about intelligence.
