Lenses like this were called "Scleral lenses"[1] in Niven's 1992 novel "The California Voodoo Game". We're not there yet, but are getting closer.

Scleral lenses are just contact lenses that sit on the sclera. They exist and are used for vision correction by people with certain eye conditions.

Mojo’s lenses do have a scleral design which makes sense, it’s one of the more comfortable hard contact designs (though quite invasive).
