A lot of 'big names' sure got this wrong. I don't think web3 will ever be mainstream. I remember Marc Andreessen was interviews by Tyler Cowen and he could not give a good answer about how web3 is useful or better than existing protocols.
Web3: "We made up digital money and ownership of digital things"
People: "Huh?"
Web3: "It's all on the Blockchain!!!"
People: "Huh?"
Web3: "You can get digital currency and buy jpgs with it!"
People: "What else can I buy with digital currency? I can already view the jpgs for free, I don't care about owning it"
Web3: "With your digital currency you can buy other digital currencies"
People: "So nothing?"
Web3: "Well... now, but in the future it will be used for everything"
People: "Umm.... Can you leave me alone now?"
Good idea to avoid leveraged trading like the plague.
