I think this is kind of dumb. Why on earth should the FCC give a damn if consumers are emailing them about potential interference on the 12GHz band? This just isn't a topic where consumers should get to weigh in. It's a technical question, does the planned mobile usage interfere with SpaceX's usage, I'm sure SpaceX and Dish both have highly technical teams capable of putting forward the required studies to come to an answer. The FCC should consider the evidence, not listen to uninformed correspondence whipped up by SpaceX.
The FCC has screwed up this exact thing (repurposing satellite frequencies for terrestrial 5G) before, see Ligado né LightSquared.
Consumer pressure would help to ensure that the FCC understands that people are paying attention to this decision so they should make sure they are confident in their analysis of the evidence. It's Friday before a long weekend, so I have my rose-tinted glasses on.
What am I missing here? Is 12Ghz unregulated? I thought you had to buy spectrum before using it. Also why does it have to be 12Ghz? The article didn't make that clear.
The point is that FCC is considering licensing the bandwidth to some mobile networks as long as it doesn't interfere with existing usage. SpaceX says it will, Dish says it won't.
