Hey, I got the original idea from this HN post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31733673

The main intention was to support more translations for better results.

Code is here: https://github.com/hoffa/bible-search

"Computer" -> "Behold, I know your thoughts, The devices with which you would wrong me."

Suggestion: Can I link to queries, search result pages and individual query-result items?

"What is computer?" -> "its legs of iron, its feet part of iron, and part of clay." (Daniel 2:33)

"smartphone" -> "Colossians 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;"

Good advice.

You might consider prepending "Show HN: " to the title of your post.

Thank you! Added.

This is a very useful tool -- thank you.

I’m getting a blank screen.

I had to be that troll: (But the tech seems good, good work!)

    search: abortion

The book is as disgusting as Mein Kampf. Why does any decent person think they'll find morality within it?

It’s a super old book that guided a large portion of humanity through pre-enlightenment time. The historical references are pretty factual based on other sources and archaeological finds. The Bible is an interesting artifact.

You use "guided". It still guides the largest religion and another important one. Even though it does give insight to its historical context, it is much more than an artifact. Criticism of its morals are still relavant.

I was trying to write in a specific way for the HN audience. But yes - it remains a very important moral text for many people, including on HN.

It also is the basis of modern, Western literary culture and with it its philosophical tradition.

Same way alchemy and astrology are.

So, you read neither of them?

Flamewar posts like this will get you banned here. No more of this, please.

Also, it looks like you've been using HN primarily for political and ideological (and, god help us, religious) battle lately. That's another line at which we ban accounts, so would you please stop that? We want curious conversation here, not enemy-smiting.

Edit: actually it looks like you've only primarily been doing that for the last few days, which isn't as bad as I thought. Please avoid this kind of posting on HN, though, regardless of how wrong others are or you feel they are.

> actually it looks like you've only primarily been doing that for the last few days

Sorry, I'm sure you've had to primarily deal with stuff like that over the last few days. I'll sit down for a drink with my drunk self to discuss the inappropriate behavior. Though, out of curiosity, would the entire history of a banned account be removed from the site ;)

> (and, god help us, religious) battle lately.

Note that this seriously misrepresents the subject. For reference: https://reverbpress.com/religion/bible-supports-abortion/

Here’s a counter argument source of what the second largest contingent of Christians believe: https://www.assemblyofbishops.org/news/2022/human-life-sacre...

The "second largest contingent" would be a good argument for something that's based on consensus, eg some science. Otherwise - like in this case - it's just https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum.
