Upgrading from Google Hangouts to Google Chat

They’ve been saying “hangouts is going away soon” for a few years now. If it does, you better believe I won’t use whatever you push to replace it.

I'm just exhausted with Google. Seriously. Yet another, "Upgrading from Duck Fuck to Fuck Duck".

The time when chat apps where interoperable was great, although apparently the underlying protocol had many issues. Why instead of fixing them we got back into walled gardens? Today my contact list is scattered around too many chat apps and barely one of them has a UI.

Chat history is finally available and searchable on mobile. But cannot make a video call without going through a Meet link.

Are we really doing this again? It's just going to go away again in another two years. Why bother, use another messaging service.

Can we also merge Google Duo, Google Meet and Google Chat?
