Regarding their technology that "detects product mentions in Reddit posts and comments", how do they correct for mentions like "I bought this Sennheiser model xyz but it's a piece of garbage". Does that score positively because it was mentioned?
[+] My confidence in Consumer Reports has nothing to do with algorithms or software. It's based on a large number of identifiable people that work there and their well-known long-standing organization. When they say, for example, that they pay for all the products they test and don't take any money from manufacturers, I'm pretty sure that if that was a lie, someone would have blown the whistle by now and the organization is sufficiently newsworthy that I'd probably have heard about it.
