b) Crime and Punishment (Dosteovsky)
c) Master and Margarita (Bulgakov)
d) Short stories of Checkhov
e) Pale fire (Nabakov).
Not sure if you would consider Nabakov as Russian or American, but his prose has clarity and is hypnotic.
