I don’t want to discredit the authors views but, as someone that has competed in sports at a high level and suffered injury, it seems as if they are going through the emotional roller coaster of recovery.
The read is all over the place and I understand they are attempting to formalize their thoughts, but I think it can all be summed up to this:
> I spent a large part of my life in a tight community, doing the one thing that allows me to escape the annoying nuances of daily routine and, for now, that’s gone because of injury. I’m now faced with a different reality that doesn’t fit the mold of my own.
Maybe I’m wrong - and that’s very possible. But this reads as an athlete struggling with injury recovery and trying to deal with the emotional negatives of losing something that has defined them.
