Fact Checking Increases Fake News

Clickbait title, and article.

There's a "some circumstances" in the original paper. Do we live in those circumstances? Who knows? The paper is entirely game-theoretic and does not supply numbers for the circumstances in which fact checking increases fake news, not do the authors speculate on whether we live in such a circumstance.

I may be wrong, but the "fake news" here isn't Facebook style propagandistic lies, or even Trump style anything he doesn't like is fake news. It's just politicians lying.

One has to wonder about Tabbarok's motivation in writing a gloss with this title.
