>Death rates for current pipe smokers were little if at all higher than for non-smokers, even with men smoking 10 pipefuls per day and with men who had smoked pipes for more than 30 years.

> Among the pipe smokers.... The US mortality ratios are 0.8 for non-inhalers and 1.0 for inhalers.
...which means pipe smokers who inhale live as long as nonsmokers, and pipe smokers that don’t inhale live longer than non-smokers.
Cancer rates for smokers skyrocketed after the 1950s chemical revolution. Previously, it was not so. What causes smokers to get cancer is the added carcinogens, not the tobacco. Granted, smoking anything is not healthy. Smoking causes emphysema and a host of other health issues. My only point is that what causes smokers to get lung cancer is obviously the added carcinogens.
I would like to see the harm of smoking (or inhaling anything that is not clean "air") somehow treated differently from the harm caused by the undisclosed additives.
It bothers me that the gvts didn't get much scrutiny into this and let it be.
That’s because their DNA is able to repair the body before the cell mutations develop into tumors. These DNA repair genes can be inherited or acquired, scientists say. And exactly what makes one person’s body better at repairing DNA is still a mystery.
