I think people over estimate how brave security guards are - most are just normal dudes that really need a job. They aren’t trained soldiers or experienced SWAT. Facing down a determined killer that’s well armed and committed to murder is precisely why we have to train soldiers extensively to fight - we aren’t built to cope with that situation naturally. That’s why I’m Uvalde the police sat outside until the border patrol tactical team came in and ended it. The police weren’t trained well enough to handle the situation but the tactical team was. What makes you think we can hire enough elite tactical teams to man every school to prevent the next school shooting? There aren’t enough of them to go around and they’re too skilled to sit in a school all day waiting for a day that at 99.999% of schools never comes.
The most politically influential sections of the population don't send their kids to public school anyway, do you think they care? They do own shares of MIC corporations, though.
I also suspect some would oppose armed guards on the grounds that they would be more likely to harm students than protect them, and making schools even more like prisons won't look great.
