Kill Japan's elderly? Cannes film probes chilling idea

Once societies start embracing the idea that terminally ill (or just mentally ill[0]) people are messy problems that need to be efficiently disposed of, the pressure on vulnerable people to do the "right" thing will only rise.

If people aren't sure that they are valued by society, then this societal expectation will push them over the edge, especially when money is involved (like inheritance, or cash payouts in the premise of this film).

Logan's Run sets the limit at 30, and is less particular about informed consent to the procedure. Maybe this film is the prequel, before regulatory capture, scope creep and empire building.
