Ask HN: Skills in This Tech Job Market?

I am seeing news that companies are putting in place hiring freezes. Some are laying people off, and others are cutting back on hiring.

In your opinion, what skills should one learn today to weather the storm and remain in demand in this challenging job market?

SQL and relational databases, the gift that keeps on giving, at the core of every serious business.

Linux system admin, mainly cloud servers these days, has paid off for me, with no downturn expected.

I think people are overreacting to a few large companies with other problems slowing their hiring.
