Ask HK: good blogging platforms for developers?

2 points·taubek··6 comments

I was surprised to see that HN considers dev.to, and in some cases, Medium as platforms for spammers.[1] For me fact that HN flags this sites means that I should stay away from them. Am I right?

Which blogging platform would be a good choice for developers? GitHub pages, selfhosted solution, WordPress.com, https://hashnode.com?

If you are a developer, why not create your own blog?

- github, or even better sourcehut as a repo + hosting - buy a domain for $10/y - hugo, jekyll (org-mode for pro)

it will take you 15 minutes

This is what I do at the moment. I do have it on github pages. I've created account at dev.to some time ago but mainly to comment and follow other developers.

It seems to me that blogging platforms could bring more audience to me. Am I wrong?

Any thoughts about blogger.com from Google.

You could also use your own domain name, like I’ve newtechie.com for 10+ years, you don’t even need to worry about hosting haha

A lot of years ago I used to have an account there... I don't remember why I ditched it. Probably because I switched to WP at that time.

I’d recommend WordPress.com. I work at Automattic and we share a ton of code and technical conversations internally via p2. You can write your document in markdown and just paste it into the editor and it “just works.”

I'm part of WP comunity for more than 5 years. I was even a WP.com paying customer for long time. Two days ago I've just helped a friend to start a new blog on WP.com. :)
